COVID-19

34th Street Church of God Corona Virus Update

July 14, 2020

Greetings 34th Street Church of God Family–

The Re-Opening Task Force has invested considerable effort and attention to our re-opening.  Upon your return, you will notice their hard work and the various changes in what we do and how we do things.  One of the easily identifiable changes involves our check-in process.  To streamline this protocol, we ask your cooperation in completing the COVID-19 Screening Form prior to your first post quarantine arrival.  For your convenience, you may complete the form electronically.  You will receive an email invitation to complete the screening form.  Details of the form are noted below.  If you do not receive an email inviting you to complete the Screening Form, contact Yvonne Holland (von.holland227@gmail.com) and she will forward the invitation to you.  Please note, only one screening form per household is needed.   Be sure to include all household members’ names on the form, though.

We are preparing for an August re-opening, but if COVID cases continue to spike, for everyone’s health and safety, we may have to consider re-opening at a later time.  Whether it is sooner or later, we remain prayerful, knowing that God is in control.  We trust Him to guide us, lead us, and keep us in His care.   Continue to visit the website and other social media platforms for current updates.

34th Street Church of God Screening Form

Every person attending the service/event, including visitors, has a responsibility to assess his/her health prior to entering the sanctuary. Therefore, each household must sign this waiver prior to entering.  Complete one form per household, and please enter the church or event together as a household.  No one will be admitted without a signed copy of this form.

If you choose to attend the service or event, you must follow the guidelines in this form. Because the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to others by infected persons who have little or no symptoms, it is important to follow the practices specified in these protocols rigorously.  If you cannot follow these guidelines, for your safety and the safety of those in attendance, you should remain home and join us via Facebook Live.

Individuals ages 65 or older are at a higher risk when sick with COVID-19.  Visit this CDC website for more information on at-risk populations: https://www.cdc.gov.coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/people-at-higher-risk.html.

Re-Opening Task Force Team

  • The task force has been diligently working to ensure a safe and strategic re-opening
  • The team has develop new procedures and protocols to ensure we open and operate under the safest sanitation conditions
  • Our facility is scheduled to undergo a professional COVID cleaning (spray or fog) later this month; all hard surfaces will be wiped down with disinfectant; high touch items (door knobs, tables, pew backs, etc.) will be sanitized after each service as well

How Will We Re-Open

  • Our re-opening will occur in phases, meaning Sunday morning services will be the first thing we resume and other programming will open up as time progresses
  • Children and Youth Church activities will not resume immediately; leaders are developing plans to engage our children and youth, though
  • Special events (e.g., baptism, choirs, facility rental) are postponed until further notice; private baby dedications of 8 people or less may be arranged by contacting Dr. Maxine Woodside of Bethesda Ministries at 813.248.8700
  • Here are a few things you may expect when we return to the sanctuary
    • crowd control: with social distancing in mind, we may begin worship in smaller gatherings; signage will be posted to indicate available seating that ensures we maintain safe distance as we worship together
    • social distancing: we ask that you maintain six feet between you and others at all times (families may sit together); all others outside of your household should be separated by six feet; rather than hug, kiss, or shake hands, we will simply “eye and nod” as we greet one another
    • masks: everyone is encouraged to bring and wear a mask upon entering the building;
    • hand-sanitizing: stations will be available throughout the building
    • hands-free towel and soap dispensers will be installed in all restrooms
    • feeling under the weather: please love others by choosing to stay home if you are not feeling well; you are welcome to join us in worship via Facebook live or on our website at www.34thstreetcog.org
    • quality services: you will notice the “order of service” has been streamlined; this is not to rush us in and out of worship, rather we are minimizing our exposure and avoiding activities that encourage person-to-person contact (e.g., meet and greet, handshakes, etc.)
    • dismissal: everyone is encouraged to leave the building immediately after service; signage and ushers will direct this flow of traffic

Staying Connected

  • Online services will continue for high-risk members and those whose health may be compromised by in-person meetings
  • As always, small groups are encouraged to engage with one another

  • A re-opening task force has been assembled
  • This team will ensure a safe re-opening of our facilities
  • The team will develop new procedures and protocols to ensure we open under the safest sanitation conditions
  • The re-opening task force has created the 34th Street Church of God member survey and emailed it to members.  If you did not receive the survey, contact Sister Yvonne Holland (von.holland227@gmail.com) and she will see that you are forwarded the survey.  Your input via the survey will aid in our decision-making process as well as enable us to identify members who are available to serve in various ministries (ushers, greeters, security, etc.).  Please complete the survey as soon as possible.  The deadline for survey input is Sunday, June 14, 2020
  • Prior to re-opening, our entire facilities will undergo a professional COVID cleaning (spray or fog) and all hard surfaces will be wiped down with disinfectant; high touch items (door knobs, tables, pew backs, etc.) will be sanitized after each service as well
